Standing Fierce News
Hey everyone, well 2011 is just about behind us and with that we had a year with an awesome start middle and a semi good end.
So I thought I should post a minor recap of the year,
2011 saw the introduction of Standing Fierce as a website and as the central hub for fighting game related information in NZ.
Standing Fierce then went on to organise a total of 4 pretty sweet events and numerous Ranbats and Casual Gaming Sessions. Each of which helped build the community into a stronger field of players.
2011 also saw the end of a very influental website for alot of us, NZism. I know there are a lot of mixed feelings on this matter and I won't stir anything up, but I still pay respect where respect is due.
Standing Fierce gained its first Sponsor, Livewire. Which is a pretty major step, thanks to Livewire and the team there.
Our first tournament for the year was First Blood, which saw our first tournament with the much anticipated Marvel Vs Capcom 3.
MVC3
With Massiah coming out on top over King Kung. These 2 guys setting the bar for future MVC3 events.
1st: Massiah
2nd: Toots(King Kung)
3rd:Lennysaurous
SSF4
Then in SSF4 the Smash Bros. showing everyone not to forget about this game with a 1st and 2nd finish respectively for Jack and Fong.
1st:Ahduhmah
2nd:Gankatron
3rd:ironSol
Then we were treated to Random Ultra, a teams tournament with a twist. Teams were chosen on the day at random with very interesting results:
MVC3
King Kung flexing his MVC3 muscles on everyone on the day.
1st: Toots(King Kung)/John
2nd: Massi4h/Fox
3rd: Hook/Fong
SSF4
Rumble and Jay coming through for the win, with Rumble taking his first event win, a well deserved one at that.
1st: Rumbe/Jay
2nd: Zosla/Optimus Dave
3rd: Devilstar/BlackstarNinja
Then after a steady flow of Ranbat nights and Casual Gaming Sessions we came to the main event of the year.
SouthernCrossup, New Zealands National Fighting Game Championships.
With a whole day of intense gaming, the turn out was excellent with a lot of you guys making the trip up to the “Big Smoke” from the deep south we had Christchurch representatives Redtie, Nick4Now and Captain Munta showing us Aucklanders how the South Island gets down.
Wellywood had its newly appointed leader, Jsculls, bring in his MVC3 and SSF4:AE skills to the show along with wellingtonian old schoolers Barnstorm and Muice.
We also had a blast from the past in the form of Team DTR running a very tight Street Fighter 2:Hyper Fighting campaign. Big ups to Thomas Foster for beasting it old school, STANDING UP.
Even though a lot of people wanted to see the advertised exhibition matches, we ran out of time, but they're still on the cards if the forums are anything to go by.
SSF4:AE
First time win for a long time awesome player in NZ, Hue “Cr8zyKill3r” Tran and also his last NZ Tournament as he headed home to Vietnam after completing his studies. 2nd and 3rd rounded off by the brothers Smash.
1st: Crazykiller

For its first outting as a tournament game for us, we saw those South Siders, Maoriiwazza and Karrizma taking out 1st and 2nd, with Money Match Taker DVS rounding out the top 3
1st: Maoriiwazza
2nd: Karrizma
3rd: DVS

Street Fighter 2: Hyper Fighting
Taken out by the same guys that were taking it out when it first came out, showing that dedication to something you love shows.

Tekken 6
NZ's resident Tekken King take 1st.

Blazblue
while not having enough number for double elim, still ran a round robin tournament to find its champion.
1st: Leonin
2nd: Cqbq
Then after all the hype had died down, there was a lul in the New Zealand Fighting Game scene, due in part to a lot of internal change ups and RL stuff for the Standing Fierce Admin.
We saw the departure of Rorooze, one of the hardest working guys I've seen for our community, thanks Rory.
Then towards the end of the year we held our final event for the year, Xmas Damager 2.
With Ben and I stepping up to help out with the running of things, we managed to get a decent turn out for this end of year event, which was not only the first time we would be running Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3, but also the last time SSF4AE would have the Twin Menace and the Hong Kong Dragon as its top tiers.
It also saw the return to form for Mason “Massi4h” Maddox, placing in the top 3 for both games after a less than “massi4h” like performance at Souther Crossup.
We were also lucky enough to have someone capturing our matches and conducting interviews for future upcoming events.
Then there were the certificates. BIG WIN!!!
SSF4AE
Kevin “Devilstar” showing us all why he is king, taking out 1st place with that damn T.Hawk.
1st: Kevin Devilstar
2nd: Zosla
3rd: Massi4h
UMVC3
Being a new game, we were given a new champion in the form of Massi4h. NZ's number 2 keeping his spot and King Kungs fall from grace.
1st: Massi4h
2nd: Smoof
3rd: King Kung
And that pretty much rounds out the year in a quick-ish kind of way for anyone wondering where the Standing Fierce year went.
Don't forget to check the forum for what we have instore for 2012, it's gonna be AWESOME.
Cheers and Merry Christmas Everyone
